TROUBLE SHOOTING CHART

PROBLEMS CAUSES SOLUTIONS
Premature wearing of teeth 1. Band Speed too fast 1. Reduce band speed
2.Teeth not cutting, merely rubbing 2. Increase feed pressure
3.Tooth pitch too coarse 3. Select finer pitch
4.Band and material over-heating 4. Apply a copious supply of coolant
5. Band Teeth running in wrong direction 5. Replace band correctly
Excessive Band Vibration whilst cutting 1. Unsuitable band speed 1. Increase or decrease according to section size & type of material being cut
2. Incorrect cutting pressure being used 2. Decrease or increase according to section size being cut
3. Band pitch too coarse 3. Select finer pitch
4. Movement of material whilst being cut 4. Hold/clamp material firmly
5. Insufficient band tension 5. Adjust band tension
Bandsaw teeth stripping 1. Tooth pitch too coarse for section being cut 1. Select a finer pitch
2. Excessive feed pressure 2. Reduce feed pressure
3. Band teeth approaching sharp corner on the material being cut 3. If possible present a flat surface to the band when starting to cut
4. Material insecurely held 4. Hold/clamp material firmly
5. Gullets choked with swarf 5. Apply suitable coolant
Rough surface finish of section being cut 1. Tooth pitch too coarse 1. Select finer pitch
2. Band speed too slow 2. Increase band speed
3. Feed rate too great 3. Decrease feeding rate
Bandsaw breakage 1. Band tension too great 1. Decrease band tension. Ensure that band tension is released when not used
2. Feed pressure too great 2. Decrease feed pressure
3. Tooth pitch too coarse 3. Select finer band
4. Mal-adjusted guides 4. Adjust correctly
5. Machine driving wheels at fault 5. Ensure periphery of wheels are free from defects
6. Band running too fast 6. Decrease band speed
Bandsaw making bow shaped cut 1. Feed pressure too great 1. Decrease band feed pressure
2. Insufficient guide support to band 2. Adjust guides as close as possible to material being cut
3. Pitch too fine 3. Select coarser tooth pitch
4. Insufficient band tension 4. Increase band tension
Gullets of bandsaw teeth choked with swarf 1. Tooth pitch too fine 1. Select coarser pitch
2. Lack of coolant 2. Apply liberal supply of suitable coolant
3. Band speed too fast 3. Decrease band speed
Bandsaw running out of square in cut 1. Mal-adjusted bandsaw guides 1. Re-align bandsaw guides – if worn replace
2. Excessive feed pressure 2. Reduce feed pressure
3. Uneven in material being cut inclusions of material being cut 3. Generally decrease cutting rate
